Taubenseehütte
Not far from the Taubensee, the traditional Taubenseehütte invites you to stop off and enjoy typical Tyrolean delicacies.
The traditional Taubenseehütte has been welcoming hikers in the middle of the Chiemgau Alps since 1904. The hut is located on the Schaffler-Kar-Alm pasture between Kössen, Schleching, Oberwössen and Reit im Winkl below the Rauhe Nadel in the German-Austrian border region. The central location offers a variety of ascent options of different lengths and levels of difficulty. Guests are treated to typical Tyrolean cuisine, hearty snacks and fresh, homemade cakes – on the terrace when the weather is nice, and in changeable weather in the cozy parlor with a tiled stove.
The idyllic Taubensee is located about five minutes’ walk from the Taubenseehütte at an altitude of 1,140 meters. It is one of the highest mountain lakes in Germany. The border between Bavaria and Tyrol runs right through the middle of the lake. In the middle of the Chiemgau Alps, the Taubensee with its diverse shores invites you to take a relaxing break from hiking and a refreshing swim. In summer the water reaches temperatures of up to 24 degrees. The dark blue color and oval shape have earned the lake the nickname “Eye of the Chiemgau”.
