Regional customs an traditions

old customs, new versions

Culture and customs are very important in the Achental: With a mixture of tradition and modernity, the Achental has a unique cultural landscape.

Christian church holidays and other events such as festivals of the traditional Heimatvereine, festivals in each village, theatres, concerts, Maibaum put-up, so called Almkirtas (festivals on Alpine pastures), return from the Alpine pastures (Almabtrieb) and Christmas markets enrich not only the life of each village, but also delight holiday guests.

Music enjoyment at its finest

In addition to the hearty brass music of numerous brass bands, the excellently trained musicians also can do concert tones for high class musical enjoyment. A sound experience that can be heard from far away are the Alphorn players from Schleching and Marquartstein. Lovers of classical music will get their money’s worth at the concert at the Streichen church or in the quarry in Marquartstein, the Musiksommer zwischen Inn und Salzach (music festival) or a concert evening at the Wolfgang Sawallisch-Foundation. Ensembles of folk music, classical music, jazz and rock come together every summer for the Chiemgau Alm Festival with concerts on Alpine pastures and mountain inns. The “Altes Bad” in Unterwössen, which opened in 2019, is also in demand as a versatile municipal event center and meeting point in the Achental.

Those who like it snappy to rocky, should definitely visit a live concert at Staudacher Musikbühne. Django 3000, a gypsy folk rock band, started their great career at Staudacher Musikbühne.
